Traditions here at Mizzou are a pretty big deal, but not many are as important as Tiger Walk. This is always the Sunday before classes officially start, and it’s to welcome the freshmen to Mizzou.
Though meant for freshmen, Tiger Walk is really celebrated by most of the MU community. This includes upperclassmen, faculty, alumni and even members of the Columbia community in general.
The incoming freshmen start on the north side of the Francis Quadrangle and run through the Columns toward Jesse Hall, symbolizing their entrance to Mizzou. This is a beloved tradition, served with nothing less than Tiger Stripe ice cream from Buck’s.
I remember my Tiger Walk very well, and I was a bit emotional leaving my FIG students on the north side as I went to wait on the steps of Jesse. I can’t wait to come back, decades later, and welcome a new class to the MU family.
Until then, though, welcome to Mizzou, class of 2015!!!
