My various social media feeds have been flooded today by people encouraging their friends, followers, and creepers to participate in National Novel Writing Month. I, of course, had no idea what on earth National Novel Writing Month was or why in the world it would be shortened to “NaNoWriMo.” Everyone seemed really excited, though, so I decided to check it out.
As it turns out, NaNoWriMo has its own website! You can create a profile, talk about what you’re writing, and even join forums for local support. The goal? Write a novel, of course! If you make it to 50,000 words, you can upload your work and be added to the site’s “Winners” page. Under my profile (which I, of course, created immediately), you can see that my (unwritten) tome is titled “#RealLifeHashtag,” and it is a work of mainstream fiction. Silly, yes, but it has potential to be fun for me to write. Will I be able to write this novel? Maybe, maybe not, but I will at least try!
In the spirit of NaNoWriMo, I will be trying to add a new post to THIS BLOG each day. Can I do it? I guess we’ll find out, along with my novel. Happy writing!
